7 Keys To Business Networking Growth

Networking is not going away. No matter how high-tech, plugged in, or globalized the world becomes, networking will be around forever. You need networking, and you need it to work for you.

But as consumers, clients, customers, and executives all realize the power and usefulness of networking you are faced with the difficulty of discriminating how, when, why, and how much networking you should be doing.

For example, if you joined every networking web site there was, you could make a full time job of just filling out web forms. Or, if you attended every networking function in your industry, you would do nothing but eat, drink, and mingle.

So, what are you going to do. This article attempts to lay out seven keys to business networking growth.

1. Become the go-to guy for a networking question. As you begin to network, your circle of acquaintances grows. Your rolodex of numbers increases. And you start running out of room to put business cards. In time, you will build a reputation as a pretty good networker.

Now and then someone may come up to you and say, “Hey, do you happen to know a good franchise consultant?” You dig in your drawer, whip out a business card and say, “Give him a call. I met him last March. Nice guy.” Bingo. You’ve scored a point. You’ve made a connection.

And you’ve won some trust. Eventually, a few more people will come up to you and say, “Hey, I heard that you may know a good marketing firm…” And so it has begun. By and by, you will receive a certain degree of recognition as someone who is very well connected, knows a lot of people, and can point people in the right direction. But networking is a snowballing adventure.

The more people you know, the more people you can get to know. The more people that come to you with networking questions, the more people you can find out about and get to know. Make it your goal to become the networking guru in your space.

2. Seek opportunities to help others. Helping people is at the core of networking. A networking attempt is so much more than a handshake and an exchange of a name card. It is so much more than accepting a connection on LinkedIn.

The value of your network is not measured by the amount of names that you know, but by the amount of help you can provide. As you survey the networking landscape, don’t look at is as a host of names to know. Look at is as a host of people to help. After all, the only truly valuable networking will be from people whom you know personally and whom you have helped.

Once you help people, especially in a sacrificial or altruistic way, you’ve won their trust. They have a degree of confidence in you. That confidence will translate into them recommending you. That is exactly what you want. That is the way to grow your network, and that is a crucial key to business networking growth.

3. Seek opportunities for others to help you. But it works both ways. Not only should you be helping others, but others can be helping you. If you need help, ask for it.

Gaining help from others creates a human connection that can’t be gained any other way. Besides, you get to see the skills of another from a unique angle. You get to see how the person works. You get to experience their product.

And you get to establish a mutual relationship of trust. That goes miles in the networking world. People willl remember those whom they help, and it is the perfect way to build a strong, lasting network.

4. Be everywhere often. Though it sounds daunting, it is possible to carve out a significant presence for yourself. The key word here is “strategic.” As I mentioned, it is an incredible waste of time to join every networking site out there.

Though you will receive a plethora of invitations, be selective. Join only the ones that will best accomplish your purposes. It should be standard, however, to at least have a presence on LinkedIn, the current networking site leader.

Other industry-specific websites should be consulted as well. In addition, attend several strategic functions as often as you can. Again, too much is too much, but make it your practice to be at the important ones as often as possible.

5. Know people well. When you meet people, remember their names and some specifics about them. Don’t be ashamed to write names down. You need to remember them. Carry around a pen and pad of paper, and jot down notes.

Not just for names, but facts, too. When you pick up the phone to call that potential customer, it will go a long way to say, “By the way, how’s your mother-in-law? I remember you mentioned she had surgery last week.”

6. Host something. Be a networking leader and go ahead and host something. It can be as simple as a backyard barbecue for all the CFOs in your town. Or it can be as big as a golf outing for all the engineering firms.

Either way, you can quickly become a networking mogul, just by organizing events. After all, once the event is over, you have a list of everyone who signed up–complete with numbers and all.

7. Finally, make it fun. Networking can be a fulfilling hobby. After all, you’re interacting with people. People can be a lot of fun. Face the challenge of being a networking guru, but make it an enjoyable and refreshing hobby.

I think we have all gone through the whole myspace trend at one point or another in our lives and some of us are still stuck in the mud on this one. However if you are tired of mysapce and are looking for something else to do or somewhere else to go that’s newer, funner, and more interesting you can check out the following websites listed below. All three of the sites listed below are fairly new, and better yet nothing like myspace! Aw, did I actually get some boos? Well I don’t like myspace. It has turned into a discovery zone-esque website. You know with the kids running around, and causing problems and just the range of immature drives me bonkers.

This site is such a great site, they have all kinds of activities you can get involved in and great things you can add to your profile such as gadgets, photos and videos and you can even upload your own music to your profile and to your zone but they also have a chat room and a forum and obviously a blog. This site is a lot like Moli or Xanga, its nothing like myspace and thats why I love it so much. You can even make your own social network if you choose to do so. This site is run by Nate who is also the owner of My Electronic Mall which seems to me to be one of the coolest discount stores out there! This is another one you really should check it!

Xocai Global Network Community -
Yea, this is the real deal baby! For those that don’t know, Xocai is a social networking and network marketing business you can get into for healthy dark chocolate products! The social networking site offers options such as a your profile page, events, forums, gadgets for you XocaiSpace, groups, photos, videos and much more! This isn’t just for people that are in the Xocai network marketing business either, ANYONE can join this site, especially if you are looking into meeting some new people! However I assume this also would be a good place to join if you are interested in the Xocai experience or the network marketing aspect of the company. This website has the perfect slogan; “Bringing Chocolate Lovers Together From All Around The World.” Terrific site!

I think everyone has heard of this social networking site by now; its a service for friends, families and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through one quick questions, what are you doing? So its a little like myspace where you are connected with everyone, but its also very different. Its basically an “update” everyone on your life program. Still pretty cool, I have checked it out but I felt like their was a lot of younger kids on this site. I’m 27 and just didn’t feel like I belonged, at all, but hey, maybe once you join you will feel different! Give it a whirl.

You Can Be An Effective Networker

The most often misguided perception of networking is you need to be outgoing and a real talker, to be good at networking and meeting potential referral partners. However this isn’t the case, because normally the person who is shy (yet very good at what they do) are often the ones who benefit the most from referral marketing and are normally not in sales or outgoing work.

You’d be very surprised at how many people are actually introverted and yet developed a system to depend on direct sales between them and others. Yet the way the sale is initiated isn’t by the introvert going out and doing sales calls, but rather on meaningful relationships, key strategic partners and good communication.

If you’re shy, I urge you to please don’t take yourself out of the networking picture, because you’re not good at making conversation. Normally it’s this kind of person who excels at the networking part which is more important in relationship building anyway.

Business networking face-to-face is a two part process, and it involves meeting, introducing, talking and listening about you and the other party. What happens if you’re shy is you tend to be quite and therefore if you meet a more outgoing counterpart, it will be tremendously easy for you to listen to them as they love expanding about themselves. All along you can be taking notes and ask more questions to draw them out.

You see, in a low-pressure and even stealth sales environment the introvert excels, because they can quietly sneak up and gain the inside information that the extroverted personality so readily gives out to everyone. This then arms the shy person with all the ammunition they need to help “solve a problem” for them, while they haven’t really drawn the quiet person out.

If you’re very intimidated about meeting people, all you need to do is quietly go up to someone where a group of people are standing around, usually an extrovert who is the centre of attention. It’s on the outskirts of these groups of conversation that you’re likely to meet other shy people and in turn you’ll feel more comfortable in discussing the ideas that the louder personalities are talking about, and it’s more natural also.

Don’t think that you only need to network at local business chambers, you can gain referrals and potential new leads by doing voluntary work, possibly attending a toastmasters meeting or rotary club (it would need to be a business themed club though).

Business networking is something you can learn to get progressively better at over time, and less shy from. If you still don’t take well to mixing business meetings, try and take advantage of a smaller, more intimate networking group, where you might only have a few others have a chat and exchange of ideas over a coffee initially. By taking the situation out of an office environment or formal surroundings it can be less intimidating also, especially when you have a good strong group leader who is sensitive to the needs of each individual in the group.

So as you do more and more mixing, even on a smaller level, you’ll learn to adapt your own special style of meeting people, even if it’s drawing them to you, rather than you going up to them. Please remember that even though you might feel extremely shy, if you smile at someone and come across as friendly, you don’t even have to talk, the louder networkers will be attracted to you and you’ll find yourself in a conversation before you know it.

Don’t Miss The Opportunity To Collect E-Mails And Or Addresses

We are in the business of relationship building. How can you develop a relationship with anyone if you don’t send, speak, write or communicate with them frequently? The easiest way to start to do that is to collect e-mails addresses, physical mailing addresses and or phone numbers. Today everyone is afraid of spam, and to be blasted by offers in their e-mail or at their home or office. They are already conditioned to dismiss an uninvited person as a pest or nuisance.

You have to get past their guard. One of the ways to do that is to make it feel harmless. Would you like to receive a copy of my Free newsletter or catalogue of the many unique products we offer? No obligation to buy. They may give you the mailing address or the PO Box address. Send them what you told them you would.

If you see them on a daily or weekly basis, you could have a sign up sheet, where you get their phone
numbers and or e-mails addresses in case of an emergency. Again use their information for just that. If you need to cancel a class or session, call or e-mail them. That is building a trusting relationship with them.

When you e-mail them make sure in the subject line it says your name and re: schedule change or cancellation of meeting. They would be sure to open it. Same if you call. Hi so and so this is Michelle, I’m calling to tell you about a cancellation. Sorry about that can you make it at this new time?

Another way to get the clients e-mail or physical address is to ask. Would you like to receive updates from me from time to time? I’m planning a newsletter would you like to be updated when that occurs? Then you have permission to send them updates of what you are doing. A new product comes out, or you wrote a book. Let your clients know about it. That is a legitimate reason to contact them.

Another reason that they would like to give out the e-mail address or physical address is a contest or raffle of some sort. We are giving away an hour coaching session please fill out your contact information.

Still another way to ensure that they may want to give their e-mail address is to give something away for free. No strings attached. You gave your e-mail address, and I’m going to reward you with a free downloadable report. Yours to keep.

Once you have the e-mails or physical addresses don’t abuse it. Let them know that you will be sending them information of importance to them. Don’t send them all sorts of offers. If they want to leave your list take them off immediately. Make it easy for them to get off. Send something to them at least once per month. But whenever possible keep collecting those addresses. Your list is vital to building your business.

Business Referrals For Chiropractors Made Easy With Greeting Cards

Generating business referrals is one of the golden keys to building a successful Chiropractic business. In this aspect, your Chiropractic practice is identical to every single other kind of business.

So, to understand the importance of business referrals, take a moment to read this story about James. He’s a realtor, but he could just as easily be a chiropractor, just like you! You and James have precisely the same need – to grow your business.

Anyhow…

James is an extraordinarily successful realtor. Some years ago he found a house for us, did a good job or organising the whole deal and we went our separate ways.

At least for a while!

Every three months, regular as clockwork, James sends us a handwritten greeting card. I’m sure he sends pretty much the same cards to everyone, but that’s not the point.

He actually sends them – THAT’s the point.

So what’s James’ secret?

“It’s the cards”, he said.

“I remember Tom Hopkins saying how within 3 years of becoming a realtor, ALL of his business came from referrals. And the vast majority of those referrals came because he religiously sent out handwritten cards. Thank you cards, birthday cards. New Year’s cards. Cards for ANY reason. He just kept on sending ‘em. So I do too, and I get exactly the same results.”

Pretty simple!

So, when I’m standing around a barbecue with a beer and a friend asks if I know a good realtor, guess who I recommend? And remember, we only ever had one transaction with James, but I, along with many other people, send him constant business.

Why? Because James is ALWAYS top-of-mind when it comes to real estate. Because he sends us cards!

AND, James could be in any business, and he’d have the same success. Finance broker, lawn mowing contractor, hairdresser, accountant, restaurateur. Doesn’t matter – the principle’s identical. Keep top-of-mind by sending heartfelt greeting cards, over and over.

So if this is such a bright idea, why don’t more businesses and sales people do this?

Well, primary reason is that most sales people are lazy!

But for those who aren’t, the main reason is that it’s too hard, too expensive and too complicated. But not any more. Sending custom written cards, with your own handwriting, sent in an envelope with a real stamp, straight from your computer, is now possible.
